How to play

Dig. Grow. Come back.

There is always a goal on screen and something to tap. No sign-up and no permissions before you play.

  1. A tiny sand island with two workers digging a hole.

    Tap to dig

Tap the sand to dig. Every tap counts.

  2. A bigger island with palm trees, five workers and a lumberjack.

    Hire and expand

Spend sand on more workers and a bigger island. Upgrade the shovels and everyone digs more with each scoop; build a machine and it digs on its own.

  3. A "While you were away" panel that gives 100K sand and a Collect button.

Come back to a pile of sand

Close the game whenever you like. Your workers keep digging, and the sand is waiting when you come back.

Status

Still being built

Farward is in early testing. It is not in the App Store or on Google Play yet, and anything you see here can still change.

The plan, in four phases

  1. Phase 1

    Settlement

    In testing now

  2. Phase 2

    Commercial expansion

    Planned

  3. Phase 3

    Imperial consolidation

    Planned

  4. Phase 4

    The Empire

    Planned

In the game today

  • Dig sand by tapping
  • Hire workers who dig for you and gain experience, from odd-job helper to managing director
  • Expand the island and watch it fill with palms, crabs and machines
  • Upgrade the shovels through 50 levels, from a carved wooden shovel to a professional kit
  • Build a machine that digs on its own, from a wooden pulley to a modern excavator, in 50 levels
  • Upgrade the storage
  • Turn sand into clay and clay into bricks at the Market, with workshops that work on their own
  • Make the camp where the crew rests, from a tent to a porch with a lantern, so they dig more
  • Collect the sand your workers dug while you were away
  • Press and hold anything, even the sea, and it has something to say
  • Tap the seagull, the crab or the workers and they talk; the true facts they tell are kept in the Logbook
  • Watch the sea through the spyglass: now and then something appears on the island (a coconut, coral, a black-headed gull, a fin...); tap it, then trade it for sand in the Logbook, which now has two tabs, Sightings and Facts; what you have not seen yet is a silhouette
  • Run the island at double speed with the x2 button (free while we test)
  • The island follows your phone's clock: dawn, day, sunset and a blue night, with a campfire on the south shore
  • Music that grows with the island: each stage has its own theme, taking turns with two calm tracks; an old radio by the campfire switches to Relax mode, only the calm songs and more sea
  • English and Spanish; effects, music and sea, and vibration you can switch off

On the way

Planned. The order and the details may change.

  • Wood: lumberjacks and a sawmill
  • Copper, steel and gold
  • Daily tasks and achievements
  • A pier and a boat to sail to a new island
  • Cloud saves
  • Release on the App Store and Google Play
The island at night: blue sea, a lit campfire on the south shore with an old radio beside it, its dial glowing, and four workers digging.
The island at night in the test version: the campfire lights the sand around it.
Concept art: an island with brick houses under construction, an excavator, two workers digging and a lumberjack.

Updates

Latest changes

What has changed in the test version, newest first.

  1. We're now called Farward

    Version 0.1.0 · build 402608

    • Idle Brick Empire is now Farward, from "far" and "forward": going far, to lands nobody knows yet. New logo and app icon: golden stone letters with a compass star, and a little island with a lighthouse on top. The island, your save and your crew stay as they were. The website moves to farward.miguelpuig.com.
  2. The rates bar under the task card

    · Version 0.1.0 · build 402509

    • The crew counter is no longer on the island (it covered the campfire). Tap the card at the top: a small bar shows the crew, the machine, the shovels and the camp, each with its level and what it brings; another tap hides it.
  3. The island grows, the machine grows, and the Camp

    · Version 0.1.0 · build 402473

    • You can see the island grow: it starts small in the middle of the sea and every expansion makes it bigger on screen (the camera no longer zooms out by itself). From island 3 it no longer fits: drag it, and it stays where you leave it. A double tap on the water, or a pinch, shows the whole island or brings it close again; the view is remembered. New sand comes out wet and dries.
    • The machine stands bigger with every era: the wooden pulley is small, the iron crane is taller than a worker and the excavator is big.
    • "Houses" are now the "Camp": where the crew rests, on the shore by the campfire. Paid in sand from island 1, five levels for now (tent, lean-to, stick hut, palm roof, porch with lantern), and each level makes the crew dig ×1.05 more (not the machine). If you already had brick houses, you keep your level and its multiplier. Now and then a worker takes a nap; the numbers never stop. Bricks wait for the camp's big levels.
